It took several years before we introduced color into our MJD collection. We asked ourselves, why did we wait so long? Everyone loves color and I vividly remember how my childhood box of Crayola crayons was selfishly guarded as one of my most prized possessions. Those waxy vibrant sticks owned a secret hiding place tucked into the corner of my dresser drawer which I am sure, was not too far from reach when my mother replaced my fresh laundry. Anyways, I was content to know that my precious ochre and green paper box was in safe keeping there.
You may say, the love affair began a long time ago. Our company has always been known for its understated, pure forms of hand-hammered stainless steel tableware. The cool, shimmering metal makes everyone smile and the ease of care socks a double bonus. But high time came to switch things up a notch. Adding color was the perfect accent and we knew it would give complexity to our beautiful, simple forms. The high notes of the rich hues add emotion, excitement and personality. For a tableware brand, the natural beauty of fruits and vegetables can only look more appetizing when paired with one of our Symphony Collection gem colored bowls or plates.
Why is color such a powerful force in our lives? What effects can it have on our bodies and minds?
Here are some handy tips on how to best add colors during your next dinner party. You may be surprised how they can move the conversation along and end your soiree on the perfect, color-inspired note.
Friendship and Adventure
Studies1 find that orange is the most effective color for food packaging. Why? It stimulates the salivary glands and charges up the appetite. Such a warm and welcoming color! Greeting your guests with the color orange will definitely rev up the spirits. We recommend adding plenty of orange carrot sticks, peppers and heirloom tomatoes on the veggie platter. Having a couple of Symphony Burnt Orange Bowls on the table will also do the trick!
Freshness Green is the color of nature and symbolizes growth, harmony and well-being. The healing power of this hue reminds us to always add plenty of those power packed leafy greens to the salad! A beautiful floral centerpiece with lots of greenery will definitely set the stage for well-balanced dinner conversations. Your guests will be nourished, relaxed and happy to be at your table. Remember your mother’s words: “Eat your greens!”
Passion and Emotion Red is a vibrant warm color creating passion and energy. After a healthy mixed greens salad, the main course is ready to be served. Relaxed and healthy, table conversations are becoming more engaged. Sparks may fly! Grilled red meats or roasts usually take center stage. For the vegetarians, a tantalizing red tomato pasta dish, red potatoes or baby beets are equally heavenly on the dinner plate. Do not forget to pour your favorite velvety red Merlot to add some extra warmth.
Tranquility Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism2 and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. After enjoying the evening’s fare and stimulating conversation, it is time to push your chair back and savor the moment. Whether the final course features scrumptious tart, gelato or berry compote, we love to serve the dessert in our Symphony Cobalt Blue Bowls.
After Dinner Coffee/Tea
Royalty and Power Purple is a warm color, mixing the qualities of both red and blue. Those elements create the perfect ambiance for wrapping up a great party of conversation and fun. Purple is often associated with independence, creativity and mystery. A good host will serve coffee or tea, revitalizing the senses for a safe drive home. Deep, rich chocolates accompanied with beautiful purple dessert napkins would be a perfect finishing touch to the most convivial evening your guests can ever remember!
